An intricately carved sandalwood statue. Depicting the four-armed Hindi Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati accompanied by the peacock. She poised gracefully in tribhaga on a large lotus plinth, playing a veena music instrument with her central two hands, and holding a mala and a lotus in two other hands. Saraswati is the goddess of learning and the arts, the only goddess to be equally revered by all the gods and demons. This figure admirably displaying the lush sensibility of Saraswati; the outlines of her slim body curvilinear, and her hips in rounded contours framing a higher waistline, in the conspicuous countenance of the divine feminine that is characteristic of the goddess. The carving delicately revealing multiple carved-throughs, with a remnant of ceremonial saffron oil paste around her shoulders. As she stands in swaying motion, her finesse inspired us all in formless waves of art and music for centuries.
